The most isolated place on earth_the point nemo_ No one lives here. A fact or myth?

Can you imagine a place where no humans live? Where there are no cities for thousands of kilometers and no people anywhere at that place. You might be thinking that I am telling you a story from a fictious movie but it is real.So welcome to the most isolated place on Earth "Point Nemo"

WHERE IS POINT NEMO?

Point Nemo is known as the oceanic pole of inaccessibility. It means this point is in the ocean that is very much far from any land in world. It does no matter in which direction you travel (north, south, east and west) you will have to travel a long distance to reach land.

LOCATION:

It is located in vast Pacific Ocean surrounded by three landmasses:

Small islands close to New Zealand, South America and Antarctica. Each of these three places are 2688 kilometers away from Point Nemo.

The distance is greater than travelling across many countries.

POINT NEMO IS CLOSER TO ASTRONAUTS THAN HUMANS:

It is true that the closest people to Point Nemo are not on earth but they are in air.Astronauts aboard the Internation space station orbit our planet at an altitude of about 400 kilometers. So, if you are standing in Point Nemo than your nearest neighbour would be floating in space above you.

WHY POINT NEMO IS ISOLATED?

The point nemo is isolated and reason for its isolation is the massive size of Pacific ocean.More than 30% of surface of earth is covered by pacific ocean. Pacific ocean has vast amount of water with only a few islands. Point Nemo is present in the largest empty region of the ocean, which is very far from shipping routes and human activity.

That's why very few ships pass from this location. It is one of the quietest place on earth. And it is least disturbed place on entire planet.

SPACE'S CEMETRY:

A very interesting thing is that this isolated place is used for some very different things. Point Nemo is often called spacecraft cemetry.

When old satellites, space stations , or spacecrafts are of no use for scientists than they guide these equipments to crash into this isolated area of earth. Why they are crashed here? This is beacause this point nemo is very much far from human populations and in this way it minimizes the risk of damage to humans beacause of crashes. This place has hundreds of pieces of debris of the space stations and space crafts that are sent intentionally into this place.

IS THERE ANY LIFE IN POINT NEMO?

People think that this place must be rich in marine life but interestingly life is limited at this place. This Point Nemo was named after Captain Nemo, who is fictional submarine commander in Jules Verne's novel "Twenty Thousands Leagues Under The Sea ".The name "Nemo" means "no one " in Latin. So this word describes this place very nicely as no one lives here.

MYSTERIOUS PLACE:

As this place is extremely isolated it has become the topic for many mysteries and unbelievable theories. Some people think of this place as a haunting place and a silent zone where nothing is present and nothing moves here except waves. Some people connect strange stories to this place.

In reality it is not a supernatural phenomenon but the emptiness and silence of this place make it feel to be the place in another world.

CAN YOU GO THERE?

If we think technically then yes humans can go at point nemo but it is very difficult and can be expensive.

It requires to cover a long sea journey and a specialized expedition.

The things which makes this voyage difficult are:

● No nearby ports

● No rescue services

● No infrastructure of any kind

That's why this place is a challenging place to visit on earth. Only a few expeditions were successful in reaching this place.

IMPORTANCE OF THIS PLACE:

Even if no one lives at point nemo , it is still important.

It helps scientists understand:

● Ocean currents

● Marine ecosystems

● The impact of isolation on life

In conclusion we can say that this place reminds us of natural wonders that even after so much technology there are places on earth that are not even touched by humans.
