Can you imagine a creature which never grows throughout its life. Animal which has its baby features throughout its life but becomes fully mature. It may seem to be something from a fictious story but actually in this world something like this is present. That animal is Axolotl which is one of the unique and mysterious things found in nature.
It is a rare amphibian.it lives in Lake Xochimilco in Mexico. When a person see it for the first time it seems to be so unreal.It has tiny legs, wide mouth that looks like it is smiling and it has feathery gills that are sticked out of its head. Many scientist and animal lovers from whole world are curious about axolotl.
A Creature That breaks rules of nature:
All amphibians (frogs and salamander )undergo metamorphosis. They are born as larvae in water then later they develop and their gills are lost instead lungs develop and then they move to land when they are adult. This transformation is very important and normal part of their lives. Axolotl is different from other amphibians and it does not grow like them and stays as it is born. This is known as neoteny. Which means having the baby like features even after reaching adulthood and becoming mature.In simple words the axolotl looks like a baby throughout its life but it is capable of reproduction.
This trait makes the axolotl unique and special and that's why it is called never growing animal.
Forever young:
Axolotls never undergo full metamorphosis but they are not incompelete and underdeveloped. In fact they survive and reproduce just like all other animals.
An axolotl lives upto 10 to 15 years and lives its whole life underwater. It breathes through its gills and remains adapted to its environment throughout its life.
So, beside all other amphibians leave water,the axoloti stay and thrive in water exactly as lt is.

Axolotl has also ability of regeneration.
This animal can regrow its entire body parts which include:

Axolotl can regenerate its body parts many times in its life without scarring. This power has made them one of the most studied animal in world and scientific reasearch. Scientists hope that if they are able to understand how axolotls regenetrate their body tissues then they will be able to apply the similer techiniques to medicines for human.
Danger to axolotl:
Beside axolotl's great ability of regeneration and adaption to environment they are facing serious threats for living.Their natural habitat lake Xochimilco has been heavily affected because of:

●Urban expansion
●Introduction of invasive species
Today, wild axolotls are considered to be endangered critically. Thousands of them exist in laboratories and as pets but their numbers have dropped to a drastic level. Efforts are being put to conserve them but still their survival is at risk.

●They are sometimes called "Mexican walking fish".Actually they are not a fish.
●Their smile is just the shape of their mouth but this shape makes them look so cute and friendly.

●They can regenerate the same limb without even losing the function of that limb.
