Can you imagine a place where fire is burning for years and it does not stop burning. It seems to be a myth but it is real. This place is called DOOR TO HELL also known as DARVAZA GAS CRATER. It is a scary place in world.
Location of door to hell:
This place is located in karakum desert, a place of Turkmenistan.
· It lies in a remote desert area
· Surrounded by sand dunes
· Far from major cities
It is isolated still tourists are attracted from whole world
HOW DID THIS DOOR TO
HELL FORMED?
The origin of this place is informed to be started from 1971 Soviet scientists were drilling in area and suddenly they hit a large underground area of natural gas .
This move of scientists led to serious situation:
· The ground collapsed, forming a large crater
· Methane gas started leaking into the air
Scientists decided to set fire to stop the spread of methane gas.
REASON FOR CONTINUOUS BURNING?
It has been more than 50 years that this crater is burning reasons for this are:
· Continuous supply of gas from underground and this continuous supply causes this fire to continue burning.
· There is no effective way to extinguish this fire
That’s why this is longest burning –human-made phenomena in the world.
HOW DOES IT LOOK
LIKE?
The crater is beautiful and terrifying as well
· About 70 meters (230feet)wide
· Filled with hundreds of small flames
· Glows brightly ,especially at night
At night it glow in deserts and due to this reason it is called
door to hell.
CAN PEOPLE GO THERE?
YES, tourists can visit Darvaza gas crater but:
· It is in remote location
· Travel can be challenging
· Visitors must stay at a safe distance from the fire
Many travelers camp at a distance from this fire to see it glowing at night.
WILL IT STOP BURNING?
The government of Turkmenistan has decided to extinguish this fire but
· No successful method is implemented yet
· The fire continuously burns.
The door to hell is the place which tells us about mistakes by the scientists during exploration. This place is also a depiction of science, accident and mystery and seems to be never ending. This also reveals that nature combined with human ideas and actions can lead to both amazing and scary things.
